Fungus

"Abiogenic petroleum origin is a discredited hypothesis that was proposed as an alternative to theory of biological petroleum origin."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abiogenic_petroleum_origin

If the abiotic oil theory were true then:

1) What makes you think that it will get replaced as fast (or faster) than we can extract it? What if it takes thousands of years for abiotic oil to get produced and seep up to an accesible level? A Golden Goose that only lays eggs twice a year is just a Gilded Goose, I'm afraid.

2) Why does the US & UK gvt go around the world invading Iraq / Iran / Libya to get their hands on Arab oil when there's a supposed bounty of stuff on US soil?
This is apparently not coming from BP well head anyhow. It is not clear well but some speculation has been that it could be old sunken oil from the BP spill which had disappeared somewhat to everyones surprise becoming lighter and rising to surface.
Oil percolates from deep in the earth upwards continuously in small amounts. Trapped amounts can be colossal. Releases are therefore dangerous and rare, When BP found that it had a monster strike on hands, it made a mistake.

But I do not think it is that which has been widely bruited?

Now, it leaks again. I do not believe that the area concerned has gone without surveillance, even if that is secret.

Well done, showing this more significance than most. We are soon to be swimming in abiotic oil!
